Teeth whitening in Turkey
Whitening lightens your natural teeth. It is a small treatment, often added to a trip for other work, and it works best when a dentist checks your teeth first.

It does not change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers. Short-term sensitivity is common. In Turkey it is often added to a trip for other treatment; on its own it rarely justifies the flight.
Two ways to whiten
The Oral Health Foundation describes two main types. In-clinic whitening takes about an hour: the gums are protected and a gel is applied, sometimes with a light. Home whitening uses thin trays made to fit your teeth; you wear them with gel for a set time each day, usually for one to two weeks.
What whitening cannot do
- It does not lighten fillings, crowns or veneers.
- It may not suit everyone; a dentist should check teeth and gums first.
- Shop-bought products mainly remove surface stains.
Whitening and other treatment
If you are having crowns or veneers on some teeth, whiten the rest first so the new teeth can be matched. If you only want whiter teeth and they are healthy, whitening is far less invasive than veneers. Be wary of a clinic that moves straight from “whiter” to “veneers on every tooth”; see red flags.
Common questions
How long does whitening last?
Several years in many cases, but it varies. Smoking, tea, coffee and red wine bring staining back more quickly.
Does whitening hurt?
Some people feel sensitivity to cold or mild gum irritation for a few days. Your dentist can give products to help.
Should I whiten before veneers or crowns?
Yes, if you are having only some teeth covered. The new teeth are matched to your whitened colour.
