Agents or booking direct?
Many UK patients first meet a Turkish clinic through an agency, a comparison site or an advert. Knowing who you are dealing with changes the questions you ask.
A dental tourism agent or facilitator connects patients with clinics and often arranges travel; it is usually paid by the clinic, which can affect which clinic it recommends. Booking direct means dealing with the clinic itself. Either can work. Whatever route you use, find out which clinic will treat you, check that clinic on HealthTürkiye, get the plan and guarantee from the clinic in writing, and pay the clinic or a party whose terms you understand.
The dental tourism market includes clinics, agencies, comparison sites, social-media influencers and booking platforms. GOV.UK’s advice is to do your own research, because private companies have a financial interest in booking your treatment and their literature should not be your only source. That applies to every party, including clinics and the publishers of guides such as this one.
What agents and facilitators do
- Collect your X-rays and send them to one or more clinics.
- Present quotes, often from clinics they work with.
- Arrange flights, hotels and transfers.
- Sometimes accompany patients or act as translators.
They are usually paid by commission from the clinic. That is not wrong, but it means an agent may favour clinics that pay it, and the clinic’s price may include the commission.
Booking direct
- You deal with the people who treat you.
- The plan, guarantee and invoice come from the clinic.
- You do the comparing and the travel arrangements yourself, or the clinic’s package covers them.
Questions for an agent
- Which clinic will treat me? Its legal name and HealthTürkiye entry, please.
- Are you paid by the clinic? Does that change my price?
- Who issues the treatment plan, the guarantee and the invoice?
- Who do I pay, and what are your terms if I cancel?
- If there is a problem after treatment, what do you do, and what does the clinic do?
Checks either way
- The clinic is on HealthTürkiye. See how to check.
- You know the treating dentist’s name.
- The guarantee is the clinic’s, in writing.
- You pay a party whose name you can check. See deposits and paying safely.
Common questions
Do agents cost more?
Not always visibly. Agents are often paid commission by the clinic, which may be built into the price.
Is an agent responsible if treatment goes wrong?
Usually not for the treatment itself. Read its terms. The clinic’s guarantee is what matters.
Is this register an agent?
No. We are a clinic. Our enquiry form goes to Precious Dental only, and we take no commission from other clinics.
