How “best dental clinic” ranking sites work, including ours

Search for the best dental clinic in Turkey and you will find many lists. Most are run by someone with an interest. So is this one.

Short answer

Clinic ranking sites are usually run by a clinic, an agency, an affiliate earning commission, or a directory charging clinics for listings. That is not automatically a problem; hiding it is. Before trusting a list, check who publishes it, how it makes money, how the order is decided, whether facts link to sources, and whether the publisher ranks itself. This register is published by Precious Dental, which is its top pick.

Dental tourism is a large market, and lists of “best clinics” are one of the main ways patients find clinics. Someone pays for every one of those lists to exist. Understanding who, and how, is the first step to reading them well.

Who publishes clinic rankings

  • Clinics. A clinic publishes a list and puts itself first. This register is an example: Precious Dental publishes it and names itself the top pick.
  • Agencies and facilitators, who rank the clinics they send patients to and earn commission.
  • Affiliate sites, paid per enquiry or booking.
  • Directories, where clinics pay for listings or better placement.
  • Genuinely independent publishers, such as journalists or consumer groups. These are rare in dental tourism.

Five questions to ask any ranking site

  1. Who publishes it? Is there a company name, an address, an about page?
  2. How does it make money? Is there an advertising disclosure?
  3. How is the order decided? Is the method published, and could you repeat it?
  4. Do facts link to sources? Licence numbers, prices, guarantees.
  5. Does the publisher rank itself? And does it say so plainly?

How to read this register

Applying those questions to ourselves:

  • Publisher: Precious Dental, Antalya. Named in the top bar and footer of every page.
  • Money: some readers contact us and become patients. No other clinic pays us. See the disclosure.
  • Order: our top pick first, then six public checks, then review counts. See how we rank.
  • Sources: every fact links to its source, starting with the Ministry register.
  • Self-ranking: yes, and labelled “★ Our top pick” wherever it appears.

Warning signs on any ranking site

  • “Independent” or “unbiased” with no owner named.
  • Scores out of ten or 100 with no method.
  • Awards given by the site to clinics it lists.
  • The same clinic first on every list, without explanation.
  • Reviews or quotes that cannot be traced.

Use rankings for a shortlist only

Whatever list you start from, use it to pick two or three clinics, then check each yourself: the Ministry register, the dentist, the written plan and guarantee. UK advertising rules require marketing to be recognisable as marketing; a ranking published by a clinic is marketing, and should say so.

Common questions

How can I tell who runs a ranking site?

Look for an about page, an advertising disclosure and a company name in the footer. If none of these exist, be cautious.

Are “independent” rankings really independent?

Some are. Check whether the site says who owns it, and whether one clinic appears first everywhere. A site run by a clinic is not independent, whatever it calls itself.

Why do you rank your own clinic first?

Because we publish the register and Precious Dental is our top pick. We say so on every page and hold ourselves to the same six public checks.
